The United States Air Force turned over control of Zweibrucken AB to the German government in Mid-1991.  The base was converted to civilian use and was re-named Flughafen Zweibrucken.  Many of the military buildings still stand and are serving as hotels, gasthauses and storage.  Some of the buildings were razed to make room for industry and civil air transport.  Zweibrucken AB is now home to one of the largest outlet malls in southern Germany.
