The 26th SPS conducted a duel role on Zweibrucken.  The squadron was responsible for base entry control, law enforcement patrol duties, protection of priority USAF assets, restricted area entry control, alarm response, air base ground defense and crime investigatons both on and off base.

The squadron was divided into two separate elements: SPOL; the law enforcement flights, responsible for day to day police duties and calls for service, and SPOS; the security flights, responsible for the flightline areas and protection of priority base resousces.  The personnel could be interchanged to some extent, but were two separate job classifications.  Both worked together on Zwei to get the job done.  On a side note, the fields were merged by the Air Force around the time the base was closed.
